Andrew O'Bien & The Searchers ANDREW JAMES O'BRIEN & THE SEARCHERS
Music Newfoundland and Labrador Award winner (2011). He was named Male Artist of the Year, Rising Star of the Year and his debut album, Songs for Searchers, was named the Pop/Rock Recording of the Year. Jamie Fitzpatrick of CBC Radio's Performance Hour says he will be, "The next big songwriter to emerge out of Newfoundland". John Clarke, Events Coordinator for the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Arts Society says, "Andrew James O'Brien plumbs the depth of human experience and bares his heart, soul, and liver in an outpouring of emotion and feeling against a catchy, melodic backdrop of contemporary folk, pop and rock".

Andrew James O'Brien and the Searchers have been rapidly building a reputation for highly energetic, thoughtful and infectious performances. The band elevates O'Brien's singer/songwriter sensibilities with a blend of folk, pop and rock giving it, at times, a harder edge while maintaining the sensitivity of his unashamedly autobiographical style of songwriting. A strong wall of refined musical arrangement married with clever, heartfelt personal narrative, has made Andrew James O'Brien and the Searchers a must see band.

In a near-deserted bay called Belles Amour (the Bay of Beautiful Love), the band focused on putting all their songs together. After twenty-two years, tens of thousands of miles, and playing till daylight for weeks on end, the members of the little big band have served their apprenticeship and now they and their fans are truly re-warded with their CD. Justin Mahoney JUSTIN MAHONEY
He has a degree in jazz and has played in loud rock bands, but Justin Mahoney has found a passion for acoustic country music that even he finds hard to explain.

Maybe it was all of the old-time country stars like Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard that the Steady Brook native’s father, local musician Colin Mahoney, used to play when Justin was younger that subconsciously crept into his heart.

Wherever his love of the simple country style came from, Mahoney is all set to release his first full-length album of original country songs written under the pseudonym The Heavy Horses and entitled “Murder Ballads and Other Love Songs.”

He recorded original music with rock bands the Evelyn Room and North Amorica. He has gigged with former I Mother Earth frontman and fellow Steady Brook native Brian Byrne and has toured with rising country music star Tara Oram, who also hails from Newfoundland.

His bands have opened for big-name acts such as Taylor Swift, INXS, Dwight Yoakam, Blue Rodeo, Johnny Reid and Sam Roberts, just to name a few.

Pogues Tribute Band THE BOYS (& GIRL) FROM THE COUNTRY HELL — POGUES TRIBUTE
When asked, Who are the 'Boys from the County Hell'? , 'Young Ned of the Hill' had this to say, "Well, 'Every Man is a King' in that band: there’s Andrew Ross, Bill Allan, Daniel Payne, Jonny Payne, Paul Lockyer, Neil Targett, Sherman Downey and 'A Man You Don’t Meet Everyday' (because she’s a girl), Angie Payne.

They’ve been playing together for several years now and it’s been a real 'Fairytale of New York'. Once the 'Streams of Whiskey' start flowing they become a bunch of 'Wildcats of Kilkenny' (though they’re mostly from Corner Brook) and even if you’ve been on the 'Sickbed of Cúchulaínn' lately, they’ll have you walking on 'The Sunny Side of the Street' in no time. They played in the 'Dirty Old Town' of St. John’s last year (with a stop in Gander for lunch) and were nominated by the Scope for one of the best shows of 2011, 'Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah!'"
The Catch THE CATCH
Mike McDonald and Louis McDonald have been playing music together professionally for more than 20 years.  The brothers morphed their well-known performing talents and an uncanny knack for banter when they hosted MusicNL’s annual awards in 2010.

Their style for musical shows is to just show up and play.  Louis told the Western Star they have been performing in an improvised manner for years so they never know what one is going to say to the other.  He said part of it was trying to crack each other up.

Following a musical education at Acadia University's School of Music, Louis continues to live a rich life as a musician on the west coast of Newfoundland. A supreme example of a musical polyglot, Lou is equally at home in front of a piano crooning standards from the 30s as he is rolling out fifteen minute versions of favourite Kim Mitchell hits. Aside from a successful career as a player, Lou is quickly gaining a reputation as a fine producer and is presently in hot demand on both sides of the microphone.

Mike McDonald has had an interest in music ever since he first got his hands on a set of Mickey Mouse drums when he was about four years old.  The sky has been the limit from there as he is now part of several bands and has been nominated for several awards.
The Modern Grass THE MODERN GRASS
The Modern Grass was born in early 2011 and is already kicking up dust in the Canadian music scene with a successful Canadian tour and a debut album nominated for Music Nova Scotias' Best Country/Bluegrass album of the year. The MG is acoustically inspired jazz, bluegrass, gypsy, blues, classical and folk music. The Quintet pays tribute to a number of musical traditions, but leaves plenty of room for innovation and improvisation. Complex arrangements translate seamlessly, and Terrell's down home songs and lyrics are a sharp and comforting contrast to the tasteful, yet avante garde musicianship. The Modern Grass is a breath of fresh air.

"The Modern Grass" features violinist extraordinaire Donald Maclennan, (TZE, Mishras Dream, Ben Caplan and the Casual Smokers) hard driving Double bass player Adam Pye ( Laura Merrimen, The moonshine Ramblers, The Bluejam Grass Band), Halifax premier resonator guitar player, Andrew Sneddon (Laura Merrimen, The moonshine Ramblers, The Bluejam Grass Band), the fastest banjo picker this side of the Mississippi, Dan MacCormack, and Tom Terrell. Terrell has released 4 full length Albums and 1 Ep, all of which were released through his own label. With his trademark harmonica and guitar sounds and incorporation of blues, jazz, country and soul, Tom Terrell has built a distinctive musical persona.
